The Toys R Us store in Ferguson, which was burglarized during last year’s unrest, will close at the end of March, the company confirmed Tuesday.
The store is at 10895 West Florissant Avenue, near Interstate 270. Peera noted other Toys R Us stores, including locations in Chesterfield and Sunset Hills, remain in the St. Louis area.
Toys R Us Inc. plans to add 900,000 square feet of new store space to its portfolio this year, including 10 new, converted or relocated Toys R Us stores and nine new outlet stores in the U.S. The new factory outlet stores represent the largest number of such stores it has opened in a single year since launching the concept in 2010.
Brandon is very aware of the Millennial shopper and notes that they are abandoning the suburbs and moving back to the cities. He therefore wants open more Toys R Us stores in major urban areas. He acknowledges is that urban rents are high but is willing to move to smaller footprints (10 thousand square feet) to make that happen.
