In music performance and recording, electric echo effects have been used since the 1950s. The is a , first made in 1959 that recreates the sound of an acoustic echo. Designed by Mike Battle, the Echoplex set a standard for the effect in the 1960s and was used by most of the notable guitar players of the era; original Echoplexes are highly sought after. While Echoplexes were used heavily by guitar players (and the occasional bass player, such as , or trumpeter, such as ), many also used the Echoplex. Amazon Echo connects to WiFi and will also pair with Bluetooth devices running Android, iOS and is fortunately not limited use to Amazon’s own Fire OS and the few devices that run it (Kindle, Fire Phone). This enables the Echo to set alarms or control many smart household appliances by the power of speech, thanks to a 7-microphone array and covering anything from TV’s to ceiling fans and air con – becoming a complete lifestyle companion. And what’s also impressive/unnerving is that it can actually think for itself and learns as we use it.
