A bactrian camel is typically solitary, although it may travel in a small groups led by a single adult male. It camel has a very distinctive gait, moving both legs on the same side of the body simultaneously. It is active during the day feeding on shrubs and grass. The bactrian camel can survive for several days without food or water, relying on the fat stored in its humps. When it finds water, it can consume up to 57 liters at once to replenish the fluids lost while it was subsisting on its fat stores.
